GAAVA INSTITUTE

We are seeking collaborators in the imagination and realization of the Gaava Institute, the creative center of Gaava, a mountaintop community near Denver, Colorado. We intend to grant key parcels of land in exchange for how the recipient will use that land to contribute towards the community’s mission.

The Concept

THE CONCEPT

Bringing art, technology, and spirituality together, our vision is to create a retreat and think tank for artists, scientists, and holistic practitioners to come together to exchange ideas. The retreat will explore innovative communal creativity by utilizing low-impact and sustainable building and living practices.

We Envision

THE VISION

We envision an artisan’s workshop, spa, greenhouse, and associated living spaces focused around a central gathering place. The Institute may include elements such as an amphitheater, gallery and meditative chapel to be shared with the larger community of Gaava, other mountain residents, and visitors.

A full description of the properties and proposal requirements are included in the official Request For Proposals. Please contact us for a copy.

gaava Institute

  • The central building for the Gaava Institute is the gathering place for the community.

  • This is where art, technology and spirituality come together for symbolic, physical and experimental interactions.

  • Strategically positioned in the middle of a gently sloping bowl, it focuses directly south onto the peak of Mount Evans.

  • The primary form of the building begins with two cylinders, focused on the Winter and Summer Solstice at astronomical noon.

  • The two cylinders intersect to form an eye that looks directly to the Spring and Fall Equinoxes.

  • This intersection is constructed of glass, creating the ultimate greenhouse designed for maximum passive solar gain.

  • The remainder of the structure is created from a combination of faces.
